Alleen de beste zwaardvechters kunnen ridder worden van De Ronde Tafel aan het hof van Koning Arthur (Sean Connery) in Camelot en Lancelot (Richard Gere) valt deze eer te beurt.
Hij bewijst zichzelf door Guinevere (Julia Ormond), de verloofde van Koning Arthur, meerdere keren uit de handen van de vijand te redden.
Lancelot wordt verliefd op haar, maar zij kan zijn liefde niet beantwoorden omdat ze gaat trouwen met de Koning.

Lancelot lives by the sword. In fact, they're next door neighbours, so teaming up to fight for money comes pretty naturally.
Lady Guinevere, on her way to marry King Arthur is ambushed by the evil Sir Malagant.

They fall in love, but Guinevere still fancies the idea of wearing a crown, so she honours her promise to Arthur.
