In een onbekend afgelegen deel van Afrika wonen de Aquatigans, een kustvolk dat hun levende god Balu aanbidt. Het gebied is rijk aan parels welke worden geofferd aan de god. De enige die Balu tot leven kan wekken is de hogepriester Palanth. Hij dwingt de jonge Mara te trouwen met de god Balu, echter zij is al verliefd op een ander en weet te ontsnappen. Ze belandt bij Tarzan en Jane, maar haar volk is haar niet vergeten en heeft krijgers gestuurd om haar terug te halen.

In an unknown remote part of Africa attend Aquatigans, a coastal nation that worships Balu their living god. The area is rich in pearls which are sacrificed to the god. The only one who could give life to Balu is the high priest Palanth. He forces the young Mara to marry the god Balu, but she is already in love with another and manages to escape. She ends up with Tarzan and Jane, but her people have not forgotten her and warriors sent to fetch her back.
