Plot:

When the newly-christened starship Enterprise's shakedown cruise goes poorly, Captain Kirk and crew put it into Spacedock for repairs. But an urgent mission interrupts their Earth-bound shore leave. A renegade Vulcan named Sybok has taken several ambassadors hostage on the planet Nimbus III, an event which also attracts the attention of a Klingon captain who wants to make a name for himself. Sybok's ragtag army captures the Enterprise and takes it on a journey to the center of the galaxy in search of the Supreme Being.

Trama:

Un gruppo di ribelli guidati da un misterioso profeta si impadronisce di Paradise City, la capitale di Nimbus III, il Pianeta della Pace Galattica, e prende come ostaggi alcuni consoli della Federazione dei Pianeti Uniti, dell'Impero Romulano e dell'Impero Klingon. La nave stellare Enterprise, al comando del capitano Kirk, viene inviata su Nimbus III per liberare gli ostaggi, ma i ribelli riescono ad impadronirsene e a dirottarla verso il centro della Galassia. Il loro capo è Sybok, fratellastro di Spock ed è alla ricerca di un pianeta perduto, che nella tradizione vulcaniana è chiamato Sha Ka Ree (il paradiso terrestre), dove spera di incontrare finalmente Dio.
