Ambientato in Francia poco prima dello scoppio della Prima Guerra Mondiale, il film racconta le battaglie, vere e proprie guerre con strategie e piani, tra due bande di ragazzini,

appartenenti a due villaggi rivali: Veltrans e Longeverne. Gli scontri si svolgono alla fine delle lezioni, con sassate, spade di legno e colpi di fionda. Come in ogni guerra che si

rispetti ci sono pericoli. Infatti, i ragazzini rischiano di riportare ferite, che suscitano puntualmente l'ira dei genitori, e, soprattutto, rischiano di cadere prigionieri dei nemici, con

l'umiliazione d'essere privati dei bottoni dei pantaloni e di ritornare a casa con le braghe in mano.................
