Ellen Sofie Hovland is a young singer- songwriter from Oslo with a talent for creating songs about the attractions and tensions between people. ”Vær her for meg” (”Stay here for me”) is her first album.

Her voice and guitar is in this recording surrounded by a somewhat original soundscape created by Morten Qvenild (keyboards and computers) and Tanja Orning (cello). The producer Erik Hillestad has avoided a typical folk-pop concept with a rhythm-section. Thus Ellen Sofie may appear with her own strength and vulnerability.

Hovland’s songs are of a kind that both gives and demands. They give laughter, sweetness and some knockouts. They demand an open and creative attitude from the listener. She leaves a lot of question with no answers. This way she makes it possible for us to become fellow creators of her world.

Her songs are about men who know how to use their power, and also about women who know how much t pays off to let them do so. She sings about the life on Facebook, about desire beyond any imaginations, the wonder of being loved and about what really happened to idealism.

Ellen Sofie Hovland was born in 1979. She is a psychologist, educated at the University of Oslo.
