Wilk's book is an interesting anthropological study about how a specific place (Belize) reflects a general phenomenon (globalization) that impacts a fundamental part of human existence (food supply and diet). Wilk uses Belize as an example since piracy converted it into "a fast food nation"--global foodstuffs, changes in tastes--in the seventeenth century. His discussion of subsequent developments to the present poses numerous thought-provoking questions about what globalization means for all of us.
