Non conosci Papicha, film diretto da Mounia Meddour, è ambientato ad Algeri nel 1997, periodo in cui il Paese è in mano ai terroristi, intenzionati a stabilire un governo islamico e arcaico. In un regime simile quelle a essere maggiormente colpite sono le donne, costrette a non vivere la loro indipendenza, nonostante vogliano assumere giustamente il controllo di sé stesse, essere libere di scegliere il loro abbigliamento e i propri spazi. Tra queste c'è Nedjma (Lyna Khoudri), studentessa universitaria che sogna di sfondare nel mondo della moda come stilista. Il fondamentalismo religioso con i suoi dettami primitivi vieta l'emancipazione e di conseguenza smorza anche il grande desiderio della giovane, gettando il paese in uno stato di caos.
