Stainboy è un super eroe che non vola, non corre alla velocità della luce, non ha assolutamente alcun potere. Col suo mantello lercio e la "S" nera sul suo tozzo corpo color carbone, l'unica sua prerogativa è lasciare macchie maleodoranti ovunque passa.
Le avventure dell'anti supereroe si svolgono a Burbank, città natale di Burton, che egli stesso considera come la patria del conformismo e dell'intolleranza.

Nata per il web, è stata distribuita liberamente sul sito della Shockwave e successivamente su Atomfilms, The World of Stainboy è una serie animata realizzata attraverso il software Macromedia/Adobe Flash creata e diretta da Tim Burton e tratta liberamente dal suo libro Morte malinconica del bambino ostrica e altre storie. La colonna sonora è realizzata da Danny Elfman, musicista cantautore e compositore, da sempre collaboratore di Burton in quasi tutti i suoi film mentre l'animazione è affidata ai pionieri dell'animazione flash, Flinch Studios, purtroppo ormai dissolti.

The World of Stainboy is a series of flash animation shorts created in 2000 by director Tim Burton and animated by Flinch Studio. The character Stainboy first appeared in two short poems in the book The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories, also created and illustrated by Tim Burton. In the shorts, Stainboy works for the Burbank police, and at the start of each episode he is ordered to investigate and bring in social outcasts. Many of the outcasts are characters from the Oyster Boy book. Each of the six episodes is under five minutes in length.
