What starts as a terse conversation between a teenager and an old man turns into wonderful relationship that re-imagines Sherlock Holmes as he nestles securely into his solitary retirement in Sussex. This is the whole Sherlock Holmes and Mary Russell series to date. A magnificent read and wholly worthy of being in the pantheon of Sherlock Holmes adventures, though ultimately these stories feature Mary Russell. Her voice is a dramatic contrast to the sometimes-surly Dr. Watson, affectionately known by Mary as Uncle John. Mycroft Holmes is also a big part of the series.
