Bob Dylan - Changing Times, 1979 Slow Train Coming

In May 2011, BBC Radio broadcast a special season of programmes to celebrate Bob Dylan’s 70th birthday. There were around 25 in total. Some were purely music shows, others took a more documentary style and there were some discussion shows which looked at different aspects of the man's life and career.

I’m in the midst of uploading all of these in the order they were broadcast (with the exception of the 6-part Bob Dylan Story and Blowin’ in the Wind: Bob Dylan’s Spiritual Journey, both of which are already available on Demonoid).

This is upload number 12, the second in a 4-part series called Changing Times from BBC 6 Music. This episode is entitled 1979, Slow Train Coming and it explores the way in which Dylan re-invented himself again at the end of the 1970s.

In the programme, John Wilson looks back to 1979 when once again Bob Dylan marked the end of a decade by making some major changes in his life and career. He embraced Christianity, spent several months in Bible School and recorded a Gospel album, Slow Train Coming. To the frustration of some of his fans, subsequent concerts were all-Gospel events with Dylan refusing to play any of his old material and often giving sermons between songs.
