Spandau Ballet - Parade (Special Edition) HD (1984 - Pop) [Flac 16-44 MQA]



Critics' and fans' estimations of Spandau Ballet's "Parade", the 1984 follow-up to the chart busting "True" LP, tend to lazily fall back of the assumption that "Parade" is some sort of lackluster retread, or soft pop listen.

Admittedly the album does follow a certain formula, and Steve Norman's sax is starting to sound a little familiar now.

But the musical moods across "Parade" are more satisfyingly distinct than ever, with some of Gary Kemp's loveliest uptempo ballads (I'll Fly For You and Round And Round are classic singles) rubbing shoulders with the harder material, and the two styles converge on the power ballad With The Pride to form one of Kemp's most definitive musical and creative statements.

Only When You Leave, the lead single, packs in the sort of dramatic power and punch that "True" is rarely given credit for having, and this same verve and energy stretches out across "Parade" in spades.

Add in the skillful ensemble playing and what all this adds up to is a great collection of songs that flows beautifully from start to finish.

Very smartly produced, "Parade" is an easy album to take for granted.
