The Woman Who Lived Twice (Vertigo) is a 1958 film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The film is based on the 1954 novel of the same name, written by Thomas Narcejac (1908–199 and Pierre Boileau (1906–1989).



In 1989 the film was included among those kept in the National Film Registry at the United States Library of Congress. In 1998 the American Film Institute placed it in 61st place in the ranking of the best one hundred US films of all time, while ten years later, in the updated list, it climbed to ninth place. In August 2012, according to the Sight and Sound poll on behalf of the British Film Institute, it ousted Orson Welles and his Fourth Estate, which had held the top since 1962, to take the top spot for best film ever.
