Marnie is a 1964 psychological thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock, based on the 1961 Winston Graham novel of the same name.

The film was written by Jay Presson Allen, then famous for his success in his stage adaptation of Muriel Spark's The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Hitchcock wanted a screenwriter, so that the story could be written from a female point of view, giving up both Joseph Stefano, his screenwriter in Psyco, who had begun the adaptation before the production of The Birds but who was not free at the time, both to Evan Hunter, to whom he had entrusted the job after Stefano gave up
