Description

The book offers a huge amount of factual information mostly concerning the fate of the Swedish volunteers serving in the armies of other nations. This information is augmented by large numbers of verbatim quotes, reports, and photos of the Swedish warriors. There are also some quotes and photos of volunteers of other nations such as Norway or Denmark. Some of the reports and photos are highly dramatic, as are, for example, the reports from the fighting in the trenches of WWI and the reports from the legendary, ill-advised, and ill-fated campaign which Hitler conducted against the former Soviet Union. One photo which impressed this reviewer with particular vehemence is a full-side picture of Norwegian SS-Panzergrenadiers taking cover in the trenches of Courland in the fall of 1944. Of particular interest are the Swedish volunteers who fought for the liberation of the Finnish People from Czarist Russia and later in the defense of the State of Finland against Soviet Russia.
