Sarah has a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Michigan. She edited two academic collections, Women Constructing Men: Female Novelists and Their Male Characters, 1750-2000 (Lexington, 2009) and New Perspectives on Popular Romance Fiction: Critical Essays (McFarland, 2012). She is founder and past president of the International Association for the Study of Popular Romance and has published academic articles on Jane Austen, J.R. Ward, Suzanne Brockmann, Joey Hill, and scenes in which the romance hero breastfeeds from the heroine. Yes, really.

Sarah loves non-paranormal contemporary romance of almost any variety, but wouldn’t turn down pre-twentieth century historical romances that explore what it means to be LGBTQI in different eras. She’s an utter slut for angst but adores humor too. She knows a thing or two about BDSM and will read any romance that gets BDSM right. Her soft spots are ex-cons, sex workers, soldiers, actors, and rock stars.
