"Shattered Dreams - Funky Blues 1967-1978" is the latest release on Ace Records label imprint Beat Goes Public (also known as BGP) and typically it's an absolute belter.

As soon as the first track --- "Shake 'Em Up" by Slim Green --- bursts through your speakers, you know you are in for a funky good time. An impressive cast of blues musicians, both big name artists and obscure ones, conduct some very funky takes on the blues and soul. Further proof of how much amazing music came out of the 60s and 70s. No doubt each listener will find their own favorites here. Mine include the instrumental dynamo "Eli's Pork Chop" by Little Sonny, and "No Matter What the Cost Will Be" by Albert Washington, which features some wild, frantic piano playing. While the photo used on the CD cover conveys a desolate, somber mood, the actual vibe of the music on this album is the total opposite of that.
