Crazy Horse is an American rock band best known for their association with Neil Young. Beginning in 1969 and continuing to the present day, they have been co-credited on a number of Young's albums, with 11 studio albums and numerous live albums being billed as by "Neil Young and Crazy Horse". They have also released six studio albums of their own, issued between 1971 and 2009.
Billy Talbot (bass) and Ralph Molina (drums) have been the only consistent members of the band. On four of Crazy Horse's studio albums, Talbot and Molina serve as the rhythm section to an entirely different group of musicians.

Re-ac-tor is the eleventh studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young, and his fourth with Crazy Horse, released in 1981. The album married the electric guitar crunch of the late 1970s Crazy Horse sound with early 1980s new wave rhythms. The simplistic, overdriven sound of the songs can be seen as a continuation of the punk-influenced numbers of Rust Never Sleeps such as "Sedan Delivery." Critical reception to the album was generally poor except for the accolades accorded to the album closer "Shots." The album marked the first use by Young of the Synclavier which would be featured heavily on several of his later albums: Trans (1982) and Landing on Water (1986).
The album features the Serenity Prayer on its back cover ("'Deus dona mihi serenitatem accipere res quae non possum mutare fortitudinem mutare res quae possum atque sapientiam differentiam cognoscere'" – "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference").
It was unavailable on compact disc until it was released as a HDCD-encoded remastered version on August 19, 2003 as part of the Neil Young Archives Digital Masterpiece Series.

Neil Young employs Crazy Horse to help him bash out a guitar-drenched hard rock set made up of thrown-together material. The group plays fiercely, as usual, but the lyrics are sketchy, seemingly improvised (the nadir is the nine-minute “T-Bone,” which consists of the lines “Got mashed potato/Ain’t got no t-bone” repeated over and over), and frequently cranky, as in “Motor City,” which finds Young criticizing Japanese cars, and “Rapid Transit,” which takes a belated swipe at new wave music while sounding like second-rate Talking Heads. For the second album in a row, Young seems to be just fulfilling his one-album-a-year record contract. The exception is the album-closing “Shots” (written by 1978), a more substantive and threatening song given a riveting performance. Later, it would be revealed that Young was finding time for his music while giving most of his attention to caring for his disabled son. Still, he might have been better advised to have suspended record-making for a few years instead of turning out half-baked efforts like this one.
