Halloween - Alternative Rock

It doesn't get much whackier than this... but all in the spirit of Halloween!

I now have 5 of the current 6 available Mermen discs, with the missing one on order . This one is probably my favorite. But if you like one you will want them all. Each CD sounds like it's attempting to be different than each other, which makes the complete collection worthwhile. The guitarist, Jim Thomas is amazing. He is one of those musicians that has created his own language on guitar. The range of tones he gets and utilizes is superb. I put him in the group of "The 3", Hendrix, Beck and Thomas.

If you read interviews online he sounds like a mad scientist of tube amps and how to get guitar sounds. Another thing from his interviews is he is very into surfing and the water. You can hear the sincerity. also an organic quality of nature and the ocean in his playing.

The other thing I took from his interviews is he is immersed in sound discovery and loves sound and playing music. It's refreshing to hear music created for music, as opposed to finance, etc. I listen to a lot of Coltrane and Ravi Shankar, but Mermen fit right in and holds up. The song "Pull of the Moon" from this CD is one of the greatest "rock anthems" I've heard. If you play guitar or love music you need to hear this!
