Synopis:

In the early 1800's, a group of fur trappers and Indian traders are returning with their goods to civilisation and are making a desperate attempt to beat the oncoming winter. When guide Zachary Bass is injured in a bear attack, they decide he's a goner and leave him behind to die. When he recovers instead, he swears revenge on them and tracks them and their paranoiac expedition leader down.

Em 1820, os territórios ao Norte da América eram inóspitos e de vida selvagem. Um grupo de caçadores de peles de animais retorna dessa região antes que o inverno chegue e castigue a todos. Zachary (Richard Harris) é o guia e batedor do grupo, que atacado pelo temido urso selvagem americano, é ferido e deixado para trás para morrer, pelo líder dos caçadores, o paranóico Capitão Henry, na brilhante atuação do consagrado ator e diretor de filmes westerns, John Huston.
