Whitney: Una Voce Diventata Leggenda, film diretto da Kasi Lemmons, racconta la vita e la carriera di Whitney Houston, interpretata da Naomi Ackie, la cantante americana scomparsa nel 2012 e icona pop dell'R&B, che con la sua musica e la sua straordinaria voce ha segnato diverse generazioni. Il film ripercorre i primi passi di una giovane Whitney nel mondo della musica, narrando come ha raggiunto tale successo mondiale, aggiudicandosi il soprannome "The Voice", attribuitole da Oprah Winfrey. La Huston segna un vero record quando nel 1985 resta in cima alla classifica americana per 14 settimane consecutive, nonostante sia solo all'inizio della sua carriera.

Cantante, popstar, ma anche attrice di talento, che ha prestato interpretazione e voce al cult Guardia del corpo (1992). Un racconto, però, che non tralascia le ombre che si sono abbattute sulla vita della star e che l'hanno portata più volte a fare abuso di stupefacenti, farmaci e alcol.
