Overview: Andrei Nikita Kuznetsov’s life is over. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, he became the Soviet Union’s foremost sniper. He fought in Afghanistan for eight pointless years. Since Ukraine’s declaration of independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, his life has fallen apart. Kicked out of the military for corruption, divorced, and estranged from his only child he has become a disgrace.



Now, Kuznetsov counts down his remaining time on this earth amidst a crumbling apartment furnished by the state. Without hope, he spends his days growing fat, and cursing at an ancient TV. At night, when the weight of his failed life becomes unbearable, he escapes into a vodka bottle. When he wakes the next day with a pounding headache, he curses the fact that he still breaths and starts the cycle anew.



Sasha has his whole life to live for. He wakes every day with a smile on his face. In front of him lays a bright future with his beloved Anna. That is until he drops out of college and loses his job, not once, but three times since the new year. Though she loves Sasha, Anna is convinced that he cannot be the man she needs him to be. A man that can be successful in a career and support the family that she dreams of starting. Amidst the chaos of the Russian attack, she adds ex-boyfriend to his list of recent achievements. Sasha’s life is over, or is it?



When the Russians invade Ukraine on the morning of February 24th, 2022, both men, on the opposite sides of life, feel the call to defend their motherland. Now Kuznetsov, armed with his grandfather’s ancient Mosin-Nagant rifle, is returning to the one thing he is good at, war, or is he? Two years over the maximum enlistment age, fat, in terrible shape, and an alcoholic, he will need to convince a skeptical military that he can still fight.
