Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri segue le tragicomiche vicende di una madre in cerca di giustizia per la figlia, che ingaggia una lotta contro un disordinato branco di poliziotti pigri e incompetenti. Dopo mesi trascorsi senza passi in avanti nelle indagini sull'omicidio di sua figlia, Mildred Hayes (Frances McDormand) decide di prendere in mano la situazione e "rimbeccare" le indolenti forze dell'ordine. Sulla strada che porta in città, la madre furente noleggia tre grandi cartelloni pubblicitari sui quali piazza una serie di messaggi polemici e controversi, rivolti al capo della polizia William Willoughby (Woody Harrelson).

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri follows the tragicomic events of a mother in search of justice for her daughter, who hires a fight against a messy bunch of lazy and incompetent policemen. After months of failing in the investigation of her daughter's murder, Mildred Hayes (Frances McDormand) decides to take matters into her own hands and "retort" the indolent police. On the road to town, the furious mother hires three large billboards on which she poses a series of controversial and controversial messages, addressed to the chief of police William Willoughby (Woody Harrelson).
