One of the better restoration comedies. Subtle - it doesn't

depend on excess to get laughs or make points.



1704. Shrewsbury. Two raffish officers of the crown return to

their home town to recruit soldiers. One of their recruits is

the disguised daughter of a local worthy.



This was the first play to be staged in New South Wales. This

detail is alluded to in the preamble.



The BBC R4 series 'Revolting People' is indebted to this play.
