Tobey ha un'officina in cui ripara macchine e non se la passa bene economicamente. Per salvarsi dalla bancarotta accetta di riparare una macchina per conto di Dino, pilota ricco e viziato. Finito il lavoro è chiaro che Tobey è in grado di spingere quella macchina molto più in là di quel che è in grado di fare Dino, il quale per dimostrare il contrario lo sfida ad una corsa a tre nella quale un incidente scatenato da Dino stesso causerà la morte di un amico di Tobey che, ingiustamente incolpato, sconterà tre anni di carcere. Una volta uscito di galera l'unico obiettivo di Tobey è attraversare il paese in tempo per gareggiare in una corsa clandestina tra le più pericolose e battere Dino.
