Midnight in Havana is an album by Anthony Newman, an accomplished pianist, conductor, and composer. The album pays tribute to the legendary Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona (1895–1963), known as “The Cuban Gershwin.” The recording captures the essence of Lecuona’s music, blending Spanish, Central European, and Afro-Cuban influences into a vibrant and evocative listening experience.



The album imagines a late-night session in Havana in 1942, where Lecuona, after performing with his band Lecuona’s Cuban Boys, unwinds at the Plaza Hotel, playing impromptu versions of his most beloved compositions.
