On the isolated island of Berk, the viking villagers sound the alarm for an incoming dragon attack. As the battle begins, small, clumsy teenager Hiccup leaves his house to join in despite all of the other vikings telling him to get inside and out of the way. He is caught by the chief of the tribe, the hulking viking Stoick the Vast, who sends him to the forge where he apprentices under the weapons master Gobber the Belch.
