BBC Radio 1 was formed out of Political Pressure from the Population of the UK and a large part of Northern Europe as well.

It all started with Radio Mercur (See TV series with English Subs on most torrent sites) back in 1959. By the Mid 60s over 15 unlicensed pirate offshore radio stations ringed the British Isles.

Radio Scotland, Radio London, Radio Caroline, and in Europe Radio Veronica, Radio North Sea International all broadcasting Pop and Rock music, peace and love to Massive AM listeners all over the UK and beyond.

With the passing of the Marine Offences Bill in August of 1967 all but 2 (Caroline and North Sea International) obeyed that unpopular law and BBC Radio 1 was born, with Ex Radio London DJ Tony Blackburn playing the Move - Flowers In the Rain as the new stations very first pop record. The BBC Light Programme and the Home Service were renamed Radio 2 and Radio 4 with a new classic service called radio 3.

The BBC now hosts 6 national music and talk/sports/news advert free radio stations who play music from around the world with no restriction on national content unlike broadcasters in North America who are forced to play American or Canadian content by large percentage of on air hours.

This group took Glastonbury 2016 by Storm, bringing a French Group back into the UK Top 10 with Tilted.
