Guadalcanal gelegen in het midden van de Solomonseilanden werd gezien als de krachtproef tussen de Japanners en Amerikanen.
De slag om Guadalcanal gaat de geschiedenisboeken in als de eerste verloren slag van de Japanners in W.O. II en als de eerste Amerikaanse strandlanding sinds 1898.
Er worden grote verliezen geleden gedurende deze uiterst grimmige slag.
Het strijdtoneel varieerde van: man tegen man gevechten, enorme artillerie bombardementen maar ook zware gevechten tussen verschillende marine onderdelen!
Uiteindelijk verloren de Japanners 24.000 man tegen 6.000 doden aan Amerikaanse zijde, in wat uiteindelijk de springplank bleek voor de aanval op Japan.

The Battle of Guadalcanal, the history as the first battle lost by the Japanese in WW II as the first American landing beaches since 1898.
There are significant losses during this extremely grim battle.
The battle ranged from: man against man battles, massive artillery bombardments, but also heavy fighting between various naval units!
Ultimately, the Japanese lost 24,000 men against 6,000 deaths on the American side, in what ultimately proved the springboard for the attack on Japan.
