This unique TV series combines travel to some of the most amazing cities in Europe with their history, great stories and classical music in a unique and spectacular format. We look at the lives and times of the great composers, the places where they worked and lived and made their extraordinary music. Music isn’t just a random collection of notes but the product of imagination, inspiration, influences and ideas. Where does it all come from? Like all of us, the great classical composers experienced times and places that had a profound impact on their music. Classical Destinations will explore extraordinary places that had remarkable influences on the composers who lived and worked in these locations, with new recordings of selections of this wonderful music, recorded by the multi-award winning Australian Chamber Orchestra as our Artist in Residence in Series II. Over thirteen episodes, Simon details the dreams, dramas and musical triumphs of composers such as Handel, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich, Elgar, Holst, Debussy, Ravel, Richard Strauss, Resphigi and Rossini to name just a few. The destinations are as exhaustive and unforgettable as Series I and include Paris, Budapest, Warsaw, Moscow, Munich, Naples, Rome, Madrid, London, The Cotswolds, Worcester, Belgrade, Dublin and Halle.
