Альбом 1998 года «Nightfall in Middle-Earth» целиком основан на «Сильмариллионе» Толкина. Blind Guardian относительно уникальны в том смысле, что в период с 1987 по 2005 годы состав группы не менялся: в него входили Ханси Кюрш (вокалист и, до 1998 г., бас-гитарист), гитаристы Андре Ольбрих и Маркус Зипен и барабанщик Томен Штаух. В 2005 году Штаух покинул группу; его заменил Фредерик Эмке. Среди великого множества power- metal команд, возникших вслед за легендарными Helloween, этой группе принадлежит особое место. Хотя бы потому, что творчество Blind Guardian невозможно ограничить узкими рамками стиля. Музыка немецких бардов заключает в себе целый мир, в котором находится место темным средневековым мотивам и светлой фэнтэзийности, мощному скоростному металу и легким мелодиям, контрасту агрессии и настоящей красоты. Их альбомы более разнообразны, чем у большинства коллег по жанру, и обладают они совершенно особой атмосферой и эмоциональностью, которую невозможно перепутать ни с кем. Blind Guardian не стремятся к ярким рекламным ходам и скандальной известности - да и вообще совсем не похожи на типичных рок-звезд. Однако силой и качеством своих альбомов они смогли завоевать огромную армию поклонников по всему миру.
